HATs and other add-ons • What is the best drive for raspberry 5?

Dear,

I have a pi 4 whose OS is install on a 3T classical hard drive connected through USB3.
It is not superfast but I can work with it.
The only problem is that the USB 3 interacts with wifi that make a wireless connection unusable.
There are multiple user and when several user are logged on, I can observe some latency (I'm not sure this is related to the HDD or the memory)
I will keep my pi 4 as is.

For my pi5, I wanted to hear advice on the best choice.
I'm using the pi for programming (including some neural network), visiting the web and bureautic.
I'm not doing any game.
This is what I currently think.
  • classical HDD: widely available, lower cost per GB, current USB3 are reasonably fast
  • SSD: fast, expensive, difficult to find a SSD more than 1T
  • NVME look the faster, but not sure, this is useful given my use
Finally, a side question, is there a easy way to measure the data writing and reading speed?

thanks
