I am using a RPi4 in a CNC mill build using a PlanetCNC controller. I intend to have liquid part cooling/lubrication so I put my electronics inside a waterproof box and have the motors etc connected using waterproof Weipu connectors. To control the mill, I had plans to use an Android tablet connected through VNC but I have found in testing that there are some lag issues that make that impossible/dangerous. While I do hope to work through those, I am looking at alternatives.
For testing/initial setup I am using a LCD connected to the micro-HDMI port. I have to leave the enclosure door open so this is not a final setup obviously. I could buy a Weipu HDMI connector which would be ok if no monitor were connected but would not be waterproof when connected. There are ruggedized versions available, but I would still prefer to have no cables for a monitor (as in, no monitor on the mill cart).
From some preliminary research, I've found a number of wireless display adapter options but none/few provide any proof they work with RPi. The closest I've seen is the Hyper Mirror kickstarter project that appeared to work well but can't be purchased anymore. The Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter appears to work with Miracast for Linux but I can't find confirmation it works with RPi OS.
Basically my question is, are there options for wireless display onto either a tablet or other display that I can currently implement? Or, if there is a way to make VNC work better, how? I'm open to options at this point since I'm starting over on a display.
