Why are you trying cgps?
if gpsmon works this then the GNSS/GPS device is working. It means gpsd should be working too. That's what the auto USB is doing for you.
I wouldn't touch anything else.
If
cat /dev/ttyUSB0
Is steaming lines, then perfect.
I would then look at using pynmea2 python module.
Ignore cgps, you don't need it. We can worry about that if Python isn't working.
