HATs and other add-ons • RS232 interfaceing with RaspberryPI 4

I am working on a project where I need the PI to connect to a serial port (RS-232 with db9 connector).

What are the reasons I should NOT connect to the GPIO pins?
Anyone have suggestions for a HAT I can order?
