HATs and other add-ons • Identify which barcode scanner

Hello,

It is decided to use Raspberry Pi 4. There will be multiple barcode scanners connected.
It is possible to have 3-4 barcode readers for different operations. Assuming only in/out setup that would be two barcode scanners.
Pi will allow people from tourniquet. If data is incoming from direction 1 barcode scanner, it will trigger direction 1 relay.

Application will run under LXDE desktop and data will be automatically filled in an edit object. That automagically works just like a keyboard typing. I do not know if it can be read directly from a device under /dev for example.

I am looking for a way to identify the actual barcode scanner that the data is sent from. Something like "the device connected to USB1" or "scanner with serial XXX" or any other means to identify.

if wonder if this is a reasonable request and possible to do.
I will be using Lazarus for development purposes. But, it is fine if I use some OS tool or anything that would help.

It is not decided to use proximity sensors as this may lead to wrong reads if there are people on both sides but just one shows a barcode to the scanner.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks & Regards,
Ertan
