The "process variable" is PV in the Wikipedia page I linked. The "differentiator" mode is described there under the "Derivative of the process variable" subsection.

Again, not completely understanding how the mode works (but understanding calculus) this should be enough if you do know how the PID mode works?

I do understand calculus and have a bit of an idea re PID, but its been a while since i have got my head round it, I should be able to figure it out though from what you have pointed out.
